Kehä / Orbit, 2021

17:11, HD, sound

At the interface of light and shadow, “Orbit” (“Kehä” in Finnish) also navigates the theme of infidelity. In a study that combines elements of concreteness and abstraction, women of different ages reveal their views and emotions regarding their peripheral encounters, as the black-and-white image glides slowly over rough, wrinkled skin covered in veins. The camera, scrutinizing the human body with grotesque realism, renders even familiar body parts alien, akin to unfamiliar particles of space – as if to estrange us from the stories we hear.
